<p>For years Vavuniya has been the terminus of the Northern Line, cementing its reputation as a transit town for the journey towards the northern Line, cementing its reputation as a transit town for the journey towards the northern part of Sri Lanka. However, the line is being reconstructed and it is hoped trains will soon be running all the way to the Jaffna. The town does not have many attractions, but there are some interesting <em>kovils</em> as well as the golden-domed <strong>Grand Jummah Mosque</strong>, an architectural gem.</p>
